Sheila Ward
Sheila trained at Manchester College of Art, doing a four year course in art and one year in education. She subsequently spent some time teaching, bringing up a family and working in an office before eventually being able to spend more time on her art work.
Sheila has exhibited in many Buckinghamshire Open Studio events, sometimes as an individual, but often as part of a group, where her subjects have always had a connection with nature - fields and trees are among her favourites, sometimes basing paintings on sketches, or photographs. But music or poetry are also starting points, for example a quotation from the poet John Clare – "I found the poems in the fields and only wrote them down". For Sheila that resonated "for me, the pictures were in the fields and I only painted them". Sheila loves watercolour but often combines it with acrylic ink, gouache or crayons.
